All of the "rave" promoters (or promoters of other events catering to that crowd) need to get together so they may not step on one another's toes. The "scene" of Vegas doesn't consist of enough individuals to support having multiple events on one evening and have both be successful.

Cameron, your ideas for events are the most inventive and well thought out that I've seen in Vegas... and while I missed the first Dark Skies, the Santa Rampage was a total blast, and the times I've stopped into Space Invaders it has always had a wonderfully eclectic crowd! Cudos to you sir.

I didn't mean to get you all pissed, so for that I'm sorry. There are more reasons as to why I can't go to your event, but rather I can go to Owenhoff's. First, I'm only 16/17 and getting my parents to allow me to stay 3 days at an event would be proving difficult, hell I have a hard time getting them to let me go to Fall Rally in Southern California for Key Club. Second, if I would be able to go, my parents would most likely enforce the LV curfew, which they have been known to do, so I wouldn't even be allowed to stay the whole 3 days, but you would make us stay and not allow us to leave the premises(SP?).

I was just mentioning Owenhoff's event for those people like me, who still want to party, but can't go to the event you scheduled, which I'm pretty sure would kick ass.

This event is going to happen with or without the support of this entire community, minors and otherwise.

Until we all get out of the mindset, that our own particular crews are gods gift to planet earth, nothing is going to change. And we're stuck with mexican polka. Is that really the future of Las Vegas? $5 beers and goons?

The whole no in-out policy is to prevent DUI, and to foster a sense of community during the event, rather than everyone leaving (an leaving their garbage for the rest of us to clean up) after their friend's have done their sets. We'll let people go to work, we'll let people go to the store, we'll let you go home and get more stuff.

We will not however let a bunch of day trippers trash this site and then leave. If you're not camping, you're not there. This is a camping trip.

BOTTOM LINE:
The event would be stronger and better with ALL of you there.
But it's going to happen either way. And it's not a party, a rave, or a music festival, it's an arts festival where we just so happen to lay down some of the darkest grooves this side of Detroit. Then we're going to burn some stuff and eat pancakes.

Competing events cannot be good for anyone involved. I don't care if some kids can't come. I care that somone I respect is apparently that oblivious and short sighted. And that pisses me off.

Camron isn't really catching shit for this. No one is BASHING dark skies, they just don't agree with the regulations. No one said it's going to suck, they just said that with the restrictions, they don't want to go. Perhaps it would be a bit better if people couldn't leave until Noon. We take these events to heart like they are our baby's or something. We own them, It becomes more than just another party for us the producers, it becomes an obsession, and not always a healthy one either.

Owenhoff: I was hurt by the dates you booked, you have changed that date, I am sorry, I hope we are cool or can be again. I would rather get along with you than throw competing events. We intend to live in Las Vegas for many years, that's what matters.

Dark Skies is the result of over 4 years of work. I don't expect you all to 'get it' because it's different. this is not what we're used to or what we've come to expect. I don't expect you all to rush out to Wal-Mart and buy $19 tents and $9 sleeping bags. (yep, they're THAT cheap)

Just bear with us here okay? We've got this figured out, the plan works because Burningman is grossing $8.5 million using this very business plan right here, they wrote this book. And they're directly advising us on this one (dig that). If you're going to do outdoor events on public land, the 'no in-out', and all the other regs are simply the only thing that works. We didn't pull these rules out of our asses, there REALLY IS a method to the madness guys.

But if you're not even going to listen to my 'sales pitch', and if you're not even going to come out and see the site and let me show you what we're thinking, then we're kinda fucked before we get going, in regards to other crews getting involved and producing their own stages. This is not just a space.

Because regardless of what I've posted on this list, and what I've emailed any of you directly, you simply do not understand what we are doing here (or why), because if you did you'd be jumping on this opportunity.

i am totally turned off by this event if this is a precursor to having to deal with you on a event that will obvilously run into much more complicated tasks... calling owenhoff would have been easy and if you cant seem to get the easy shit done why would i put my time, money, and rep on the line for a event that you seem not to be able to work with others on....

The October reference is when the next Dark Skies will be scheduled, probably the first weekend of that month. We will begin offering stages to local producers probably as soon as the May event is done.

So when I say "hope to see you October" it means I hope you'll participate in that.
The offer still stands for May too.

Take the Rainbow gathering for instance... people sleepo as they feel needed and there are people making noise all hours of the night and day...

Take Burning man... Its a camping party with art , and lots of noise all hours of the day and night...

I helped found and build VegasArtists.com from the ground up. Myself and the others involved used to put up with the bullshit because during the really great events (especially late last year), I would tell myself that if a little bullshit was all a few people had to put up with for the many to have a great time, then it was worthwhile.

Now I see it differently... we complain about corrupt politicians in power. Fact is, we GIVE THEM power, because we lack faith in ourselves to ensure our own sustainability, and then they exploit us for their own trifling, selfish gains. The politician is nice to you if you have something that they want, but if they feel you are a threat to them then they fear you and attempt to either destroy you or keep you powerless.

You can have an event with all the stages, headliners and explosives in the world, but without PLUR, without real community involvement, all that is really happenning is a bill is being paid. Nothing evolves. It is mindless consumption.

What is more substantial is that we empower ourselves, work together creatively, and have fun doing it. If it's not fun, then it's pointless, and behind the scenes I saw nothing but politics, drama, and disrespect. That's why I resigned in 12/04 and will not be supporting Dark Skies or other VA events, at least not with the way things are now. Ignoring or covering up for another's destructive behavior towards others simply enables its existence.

I have been lurking on this board periodically for the past year, and find this forum to be a true community resource. Respect to everyone who keeps doing whatever it is that they're doing with love and sincerity... lawd knows it can be difficult sometimes.

Fact is, we GIVE THEM power, because we lack faith in ourselves to ensure our own sustainability, and then they exploit us for their own trifling, selfish gains. The politician is nice to you if you have something that they want, but if they feel you are a threat to them then they fear you and attempt to either destroy you or keep you powerless.

You can have an event with all the stages, headliners and explosives in the world, but without PLUR, without real community involvement, all that is really happenning is a bill is being paid. Nothing evolves. It is mindless consumption.

What is more substantial is that we empower ourselves, work together creatively, and have fun doing it. If it's not fun, then it's pointless, and behind the scenes I saw nothing but politics, drama, and disrespect. That's why I resigned in 12/04 and will not be supporting Dark Skies or other VA events, at least not with the way things are now. Ignoring or covering up for another's destructive behavior towards others simply enables its existence.

I have been lurking on this board periodically for the past year, and find this forum to be a true community resource. Respect to everyone who keeps doing whatever it is that they're doing with love and sincerity... lawd knows it can be difficult sometimes.

I’ve been lurking on this list for a couple of months now and this is the first and probably last time I will post here. Who fucking cares?? Who cares if this Cameron guy is an asshole? From what’s being posted about him he probably caused the AIDS epidemic in Africa and we heard he’s a racist too. So why are you giving him any press? Why aren’t any of you doing something better than some stupid desert event? Because it’s a lot easier to tear someone down who has an original idea than to actually get off your lazy asses and do anything yourselves. This is pathetic. I’ve been back 10 pages through the posts, there’s nothing of any value being posted here, and that which is is quickly shot down in flames. Someone throws a party and the rest of you spend the next week tearing them down. Talking shit about how “so & so’s party was much better”, yet did you do anything to help? Nope you sit on your computers and start flame wars. How fucking original. Someone tries to do something and because you didn’t think of it or because you don’t agree with it or how they run their business you spend your lives trying to tear them down. You are all wasting you lives doing nothing and creating nothing and you wonder why you have nothing. Are you all really this stupid? Apparently so, all this drama, jeesh. You really have nothing better to do? What a complete waste of time and energy this list is. Point is, we have a local promoter threatening people with violence if they express an opinion they disagree with, and this whole thing started with that same promoter publicly disrespecting other local promoters who did not get involved with his event.

I, for one, do not condone this sort of behavior, and therefore will not be supporting events produced by people who act this way. I openly express that I was personally threatened (and wrongly accused) by this person, because people should know exactly who it is they are dealing with. To hide that person's behavior for them is to be an accomplice to further such actions.

No one has said anyone's events are better, no one has told anyone not to attend anyone's events... what has been stated are facts and opinions about those facts, by people who are actually involved with producing events in this town. Decide for yourself.

A few notes, we're going to title this post: Why weenus is more intelligent than a 40 year old man and why LordVoidmemore doesn't have a point in a room full of knives.

A: No one ever said Dark Skies sucked or someone else threw a better party. That was never said. That was PROJECTED by Cameron onto the posters who just didn't agree with the rules and format. It never happened, it was never said. This is just one of the first points of proof that LordVeggies is Cameron.

B: Throwing a three day community party in the desert is not an original idea. Dark Skies is happening for the SINGLE REASON that Cameron wants to CREATE his own Community, based around his ideals, his enjoyment, and his name. A group of other people started Burning Man, Cameron couldn't get famous from it so he is trying to recreate it with Dark Skies. They even burnt an icon. Which, by the way, was suggested by Sheena, (burning the sun) which was an idea I gave to her. So yes, Cameron, your extremely originally event included a bonfire based around weenus. Congrats.

C: The first stone on this post and in this war was thrown by Cameron. No one else. I could copy and paste and quote dozens of COLD HARD IRRIFUTABLE FACTS based upon this arguement. So wat if cameron wants to try and create something that has already been done. Burning man is like 375 dollars just to buy the presale tickets now and the price is just going up. Vegas doesnt have anything like burning man and it would be cool to have something like it. I know i cant afford that kind of money for a ticket to an event.

All i see here is Cammy obviously frustrated and frazzled from trying to throw parties for ungrateful assholes being torn a new asshole. And this "message board personality" who does nothing that i know of for the party scene shoot down everything. I learned my lesson the first time i posted a "bad party thread" about Groove is in the heart, wich obviously wasnt a bad party i was just bitter.
