I am saving up for a novation 61key but I need something to use for now.. willing to spend $100 for something used like an m-audio axiom or something with at least a few trigger pads and level controls.

let me know if anyone has an extra one laying around !

Question for the elders here. Is USB midi naturally slower than connecting to the midi port on the back of your s/c? Logic would tell me yes, however, I could be wrong.

Technically, yes it would be slower and the signal a bit less clear. But the advantages are that your system will likely be able to read it by just plugging it in. Also, when plugged into the MIDI port, that's the only signal you will get is MIDI. If you want your DAW to read the keyboard station as a .wav or even .mp3 it won't be able to do that with the MIDI connection.
