opinions? is it acceptable? taboo & annoying? what do you feel?

i hate it when people request the most over played track and thats it! if someone intrigued me with knowing a more rare tune with full knowledge of the artist/title/label id be more prone to satisfy their needs. i cant stand it when multiple ask for the same 2 songs thats been played more than once in 1 night on more than 1 occasion!

i say no to requests let the DJ does his thing and read the crowd himself!

Depends on the request actually....

At Empire, I had a bunch of girls request Tiesto during my set.... and I bent to satisfy them. Didn't play Tiesto, but I did play some remixes of tracks I thought they would know (some house remixes of older trance tracks w/ vocals). They sung along and were happy.
I also had one of the bussers there request "DJ Antonie - This Time", and I ejected right there and cued it up.

If I can oblige without my set suffering, I'll absolutely do it. Afterall, it is about THEM (at least in my mind).

Agreed. But there are times when you have to just say "I'll see what I can do" and if their request doesn't fit...it doesn't fit.

I've been having this happen to me at smaller events, its pretty annoying especially at one first Friday gig drunk dudes were requesting the most random shit and rap shit. It just gets annoying after awile.

when i played at empire, people would come up to me and request a tune. i usually would end up playing it unless it was a track that would never mix into my set or i just didnt have it at the time.

even back in the days when we had parties, i would always get requests and as long as i had the track, then i would drop it.

I don't mind requests when someone can tell what yor feeling in your set and gives you something that, you say "hey, why the hell didn't I think of that" lol. Other than that No requests please!

yeah i think its cool, if the requester actually knows your genre of music and suggests a song of quality that would actually blend in with your session, but one time at empire steve smooth was performing, and lucky for me Jordan Stevens got me on stage to meet him, and some chick was dancing in the front of the stage and she got my attention and was like, " YOU!! YEA YOU!! COME HERE" im like yo whats up! think'n maybe ima get some play or something, lol and shes like, " HEY CAN U HAVE THE DJ PLAY IAn van Dahl's CASTLES IN THE SKY!!" im like um NO, steve smooth is a chicago based house dj, i was like hell no!! thats the kind of request thats just STUPID!! shit i wasnt even the DJ but that shit annoyed me a bit, you cant just throw a straight trance song into the middle of a house set out of nowhere!! BOO TO YOU CRAZY CHICK!! LOL (also you could tell she was a tourist)

LOL Even if he were playing a trance set... "Castles in the Sky" is DJ suicide. It's up there with Sandstorm.
