SCC DJ and Turntablism Classes * Register Now *
Body: This Fall, SCC will offer three DJ classes. The newest class is a continuation of MUC 135 and is called "Advanced Live-Performance Disc Jockey Techniques." Taught by Bombshelter DJ Emile, this class will emphasize real-world working DJ environments and will included guest lectures by Emile's Bombshelter partners -- DJ Radar and DJ Z-Trip (see class 3 below for more info).

Live-Performance Disc Jockey Techniques (MUC 135) 2 Credits

Development of beginning level live-performance disc jockey techniques. Emphasis on understanding the construction of industry-formatted dance songs, cueing, segueing/mixing methods, the relationship of beats per minute to segueing, and programming songs to entertain a live audience. Covers the history of the live performance DJ and strategies for soliciting employment in the field. Prerequisites: None. Scheduled guest speakers include: DJ Z-Trip, DJ Earth, DJ Ruthless Ramsey, DJ Wyatt Brice, Miles Gilbert of SKM Entertainment, and DJ Emile.

Students should register by logging on to my. maricopa. edu and click “Add a Class” or complete the registration form and submit it to the Admissions and Records Office.

Turntable Mixology aka “Turntablism“ ($99) Non-Credit

If you’re interested in or involved in the Disc Jockey profession, this course will help you step up your skills through multiple hands on lab sessions. Learn advanced record control and various turntablism techniques to bring out your form and signature sound. Prerequisites: None. Students should register by contacting the Community Education (aka “non-credit“) Department Admissions Office in Room LB 119 or by Phoning (480) 423-6321.

DJ and live-performance applications, real-world environments and tours of clubs. Student will be required to perform a one-hour set in a live club. DJ Z-Trip and DJ Radar are scheduled to speak to this class. Suggested Prerequisite: Successful completion of MUC 135 (a credit course) and “Turntable Mixology.” Students should register by contacting the Community Education (aka “non-credit“) Department Admissions Office in Room LB 119 or by Phoning (480) 423-6321.
