View Full Version : GU Whore
Mon Mar 24, 2003, 11:00 PM
So in my own personal effort to help out Global Undergrounds financial woes, and to just have a pretty damn cool collection. I'm buying every single GU that has been released, or to be released, that I don't already own. Started this about 6 weeks ago, and have really been enjoying listening to some classic mixes, like 009 Disc 2, 014 Disc 2, 013 Disc 1.
I had a few of the GUs were in my car that was stolen Sat. night, but the ones I have left are...
006 - John Digweed - Sydney
009 - Sasha - San Francisco
014 - John Digweed - Hong Kong
022 - Dave Seaman - Melbourne (Long Box Edition)
024 - Nick Warren - Reykjavik <~~ superb cd, highly recommended
ganked was...
004 - Paul Oakenfold - Oslo
010 - Danny Tenaglia - Athens
012 - Dave Seaman - Buenos Aires
013 - Sasha - Ibiza
016 - Dave Seaman - Cape Town
018 - Nick Warren - Amsterdam
019 - John Digweed - Los Angeles
021 - Deep Dish - Moscow
anyone else have any GU favorites? or recommendations? ...i'm not buying them in order or anything.

Hong Kong was the shit...
Hit up Soulseek I know you own a pc.

I have soulseek, and I use it to download live sets and whatnot. But I also choose to actually support the dance music industry and pay for mixed comps that I like, and buy the singles that I like when they are available on vinyl, instead of playing them off CD-R. Plus the GU sleeve notes are really cool, and I think it would be sweet to flip through my cd book and have it be like GU001,003,004,005..... all back to back.

Hells yes Honk Kong...second disc...the first ones ok...it just starts too fruity ....the second disc is phat straight through.
Tue Mar 25, 2003, 11:27 AM
The second disc is clearly the standout. Totally peaks out with "Hole in One - Amran in the 7th Phase".
The second disc of Sasha's San Francisco is clearly the standout mix of any global underground. The programming, the mixing, the journey... I don't think I've heard a better set in my life.

Sucks about your car dude.
I pay for stuff where ever I can as well, however there are some comps that are never packaged or sold. Just recorded and downloaded. I really like live sets with the crowd in the background.
I am not sure which GUs are the best. They are all pretty good.

you mean sasha or washed up as of his last album hmmm well I dont think their is even a comparison between the two. who knows maybe to alot of other people sasha is god but to me hes just another boring run of the mill trance dj NO COMPARISON there.humpty isnt like my favorite dj or anything but bangin music like he spins and dreamy stuff like sasha plays arent things you can easily compare ^_^

first of all, benny and i are just joking with each other about the sasha, oakenfold, and rhv comments, and that whole conversation was totally facetious. if you like humpty vission and hard dance, then kudos.
second, airdrawndagger is not a dance cd. its not even a mixed compilation. its an artist album. the structure, the crisp and lush sounds, and the atmospheric mood that he creates is only rivaled by a few other producers. i know you dont like progressive dance music, so i do not expect an educated critique and response of it. everyone that spins the music will tell you that sasha is the master of the musical mix (that has nothing to do with scratching, cuts, beat juggling). it simply means his understanding of music theory and harmony as it relates to mixing is rivaled by very few. i will not take to heart the opinion of someone that knows virtually nothing of what they are blagging.

:-O x 1,000 Dude, that sucks soooooo bad. You were humorous about it, so it sounded funny at the end, but that is so not cool. I hope you get your money invested back, but sometimes insurance companies can be bitches. My friends car got stolen and they fucked her over. Best of luck.

everyones taste in music differs.....and I wont argue the point that I dont know a thing about music because you dont know me and I dont know you. we live in two different worlds though when it comes to music.what can I say I guess I am just not hip to the beat like you. And secondly i didnt intend anything mean or personal towards you with my response but youve obviously bridged that gap nicely. I really didnt intend for anyones feeling to get hurt by this post,I was just stating my opinions on music and I guess you didnt like what I had to say. I will say this though just because I dont gravitate towards progressive sounds like you do doesnt mean I dont know anything about music.

well as far as going to the original topic at hand--favorite Global Underground Compilations--I really like steve lawler's, "Turn The Lights Out." As well as his NuBreed, and a few other NuBreeds'. Also the 'Afterhours' compilations and videos are pretty cool..........I like all other diverse electronic musical styles as well. Electronic music in general is my prognosis others might confiscate.

Isn't Satoshi's NuBreed, Techhouse. I might be wrong, with all this new classification bullshit it's hard to determine who is really on what level of thinking when it comes to certain sub-genres of electronic music.

yeah, who knows with all these classifications anymore. Soon they'll have a class for each and every track, it's gettin outa hand. Oh well, doesn't stop me from listening. Time is Passing.
Adding to this post......would Darren Emerson's GU be tech house? Or give me some examples............would be appreciated.

Tech house to me is Terry Francis.
But some tech house artists are Grant Dell, Tony Hewitt, Patrick Turner, Mazi, J tripwire, Stewart Walker, Tyler Stadius, Eddie Richards, Halo & Hipp-e, Joeski, Robert Owens to name a few good ones.
