VegasArtists.com Presents “Blank Canvas @ First Friday” and “Spaced Invaders” After Party
Las Vegas, NV, November 5, 2004 – VegasArtists.com will continue hosting “Blank Canvas @ First Friday” at the Main Stage in front of the Funkhouse from 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM with a lineup of awesome local talent. They will also be hosting the extremely well-received “Spaced Invaders” after party at Snick’s Place, Neon Grphx and Aloha Laundromat at 1402 S. 3rd St., just one block east and one block south of the Funkhouse, from 10:00 PM into the wee hours. Both events are free and all ages are welcome.
Blank Canvas @ First Friday will start off with live improvisational music courtesy of
Waste Management from 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM, featuring members of influential local arts group the KGPA.
From 8:20 PM – 8:50 PM, local punk favorites The Pervz will rock the block, and the grand finale will feature live Japanese taiko drumming performed by Kaminari Taiko from 8:50 PM – 9:30 PM.
Spaced Invaders starts at 10:00 PM and will feature three separate areas of entertainment. The bar is inside Snick’s Place and will feature house and techno Djs hosted by Soul Kitchen, featuring
John Michael,
Edgar Reyes,
Speedy,
Solo,
and Wez.
The outdoor area will start off with
DJ Peter Pendragon spinning trip-hop,
followed by Distrukto Mizuno performing an eclectic DJ set with live bass, and then two live performances: the first an experimental performance by the Strawberry Mannequins,
the second featuring the dark ambient sounds of Meat Over Moscow.
There will be film and laundry (that’s right… bring a load of dirty clothes to wash!) inside the Aloha Laundromat for a screening called Celluloid Sudz hosted by the Scheissenhoven (a.k.a. Shithoof) Film Crew. This screening will feature short films by local filmmakers along with a special intermission screening of “The Colors of Darkness” by Speedy at 11:30 PM. This DVD by local DJ /producer/composer Jimmy Gonzalez (a.k.a. Speedy) features the unique combination of euro-horror and Italian Giallo films synched with a dark and brooding electronica DJ mix. There will be art displays everywhere, and alien/space-themed costumes are encouraged at Spaced Invaders. Again, admission is free.
Formed in April 2004, VegasArtists.com exists to promote independent local art regardless of medium or affiliation. It intends to promote art through a series of events designed to introduce people to art that they may have never seen or heard, and to give artists of all types a unique venue in which to perform or display their work. It started by hosting their first Blank Canvas @ First Friday in May 2004. VegasArtists.com promotes radical self-expression, radical self-reliance, community involvement, and a leave-no-trace ethos. VegasArtists.com is not for profit, but is a community resource and a force for positive change in Las Vegas.
